Operational Error Detection

A majority of what ScanItAll™ detects is unintentional loss, caused by inadequate employee training, poor POS design or operational errors. Even honest employees can cost you money by failing to scan merchandise. ScanItAll™ identifies those employees who engage in operational error and require either more training or retraining.

Examples of operational error are as follows:

  • The cashier might be lazy and decide not to rescan an item that the scanner did not record.
  • The cashier might be distracted by talking to the bagger or the customer and, consequently, not scan an item.
  • The cashier might look up an item, e.g. produce, not see the price, and pass it around the scanner.

An estimated 20-25% of cashiers fail to scan items, thereby giving them away free, due to preventable training error. Their mistakes, now identified on ScanItAll™ video, present a training opportunity for you and a solid means of loss prevention. In some cases, you might find that the fault lies in a malfunctioning scanner, not the employee, and have the scanner repaired.
